Individual Therapy:  Individual therapy is an opportunity to explore your internal world and relationships in a supportive, nonjudgmental setting.  The role of the therapist is to help you examine thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviors, while supporting you in making choices which positively impact your mind, body, spirit, and relationships.  At Affirmative Counseling we work with individuals using a variety of traditional and holistic therapeutic techniques to support you in reaching your personal goals.

Family Therapy: Family therapy focuses on the relationships between individuals in the family.  The goal of family therapy is to enhance healthy behavior and communication between all family members.  Every family has behavior patterns, or tensions that build up over time, sometimes even across generations.  The role of the therapist is to support the family members in examining these patterns and making changes in the relationships so that each family member can feel comfortable with their relationships and roles in the family.  We welcome traditional, blended, and alternative families of all kinds!  Family therapy can take place in the office, or through outreach to your home.

Adolescent Therapy:  Adolescence is a time of huge physical and emotional changes.  It is also a time of increasing desire for independence, social relationships, and identity formation.  These changes can lead to a great deal of stress for some teens and their families.  However, most adolescents are less than thrilled with the idea of having to sit in an office with a therapist asking them a bunch of intrusive questions.  For this reason we offer teen outreach counseling which can take place at your home, in a park, going for a walk, or while shooting hoops.  Our experience is that teens are more open to therapy when it takes place in a relaxed setting.  Adolescent therapy is usually a combination of individual and family work to support the adolescent in making healthy choices, and to improve relationships with parents, siblings, and friends.

Telephone Counseling:  Counseling by phone is an alternative for people who experience barriers to seeking in-person counseling.  While telephone counseling cannot replicate all of the benefits of in-person therapy, it can be useful in circumstances where you are not able, or not ready to meet with a therapist face to face.  It is also useful when you already have an established relationship with a therapist, but have moved out of the area, or travel frequently.
